[Trade Catalogue] Tiling.; A Series of Suggestions for Walls. Floors. Fireplaces. &c

Categories: , ,
N.d., circa early 1900s. Folio. 38 by 29 cm. Title leaf, index leaf, preface leaf, followed by 36 chromolithographic color plates, each with facing leaf containing price list. Plates capture stunning high Art Nouveau design aesthetics. Price list leaves also serving as tissue guards, it would seem. Maw & Co. was founded in Worcester in 1850, and it moved to Jackfield in 1883. By 1900 Maw was the world's largest producer of ceramic tile. The company's fortunes went into decline after the First World War, but remained in business, after a merger and a reorganization, until 1970. In 2001 the company was revived as a maker of specialty Victorian tile. Condition: On the periphery of a number of plates there is a smudgy darkening. While this has the appearance of soiling, we think it is probably the result of a chemical reaction of the glossy card stock used. Title: [Trade Catalogue] Tiling.; A Series of Suggestions for Walls.
